Holy Spirit 4
'The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.' Romans 8:26 NLT
Our daily lives work so much better when we give God the lead. But that's not always easy. We can lack motivation, be easily distracted, and be uncertain on how to seek his leading, what to pray for or what to read in his Word, the Bible.
Our heavenly Father knows that we struggle - so he helps us, through his Holy Spirit: 'The Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father...knows...what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us...in harmony with God's own will' (Romans 8:26-27 NLT). No matter how we feel when we pray, the Holy Spirit transforms our weakest prayers into powerful appeals to God the Father. And when it comes to reading the Bible, Jesus said, 'But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come' (John 16:13 NIV). This verse shows us that the Holy Spirit guides us in our understanding of God's Word, reveals what Jesus wants us to know, and reminds us of the good future God promises to all who choose to trust him.
Christian resources and skilled Bible teachers are helpful, but they're no substitute for hearing from the Holy Spirit for ourselves and listening carefully to what he wants to tell us.
So what now? Go to your favourite Bible chapter. Before you read, ask the Spirit to show you something new from it.
