God's greatness 5
'The earth will wear out like a piece of clothing.' Isaiah 51:6 NLT
'Look up to the skies above, and gaze down on the earth below. For the skies will disappear like smoke, and the earth will wear out like a piece of clothing. The people of the earth will die like flies, but my salvation lasts forever. My righteous rule will never end' (Isaiah 51:6 NLT).
The things of this world that look solid and tangible now are the things that will one day fade away. But God's gift of salvation can never be taken away from us, if we accept that gift. Even if we've done things we're ashamed of, or have rejected God in the past, God is longing for each of us to accept this offer of salvation and live a life that puts him at the centre. And when we do that, God promises that even though we'll have to suffer death one day, we'll be reunited with him for eternity. His love for us won't fade or change.
The psalmist wrote: 'In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment...But you remain the same, and your years will never end' (Psalm 102:25-27 NIV). When our hope and trust is in material things, we will be disappointed. Instead let's pour all our hope and trust into God, who never changes and will never let us down.
So what now? Ask God to help you put all your trust in him rather than earthly things.
