Metamorphosis

'Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle.' Hebrews 11:34 NLT

The word metamorphosis means to be changed from one form into another. In Hebrews 11, mention is made of Old Testament men like Moses and David, who are described as men of God and full of faith. Yet they were human just like us; they struggled and had weaknesses. But we're told that 'their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle' (Hebrews 11:34 NLT).

The process of a caterpillar morphing into a butterfly is slow and hard work. The butterfly's wings develop as a result of struggling in the cocoon until it breaks free. Without the process and struggle, the butterfly is not fully developed.

Sometimes we may experience intense battles - physical, emotional or spiritual. But it's our struggles that really develop our strength, and our battles that fully highlight our victories.

When Paul's life became so hard that he thought he couldn't stand another day of it, God told him, 'My grace is enough for you. When you are weak, my power is made perfect in you' (2 Corinthians 12:9 NCV). Paul responded by saying: 'For this reason I am happy when I have weaknesses, insults, hard times, sufferings, and all kinds of troubles for Christ. Because when I am weak, then I am truly strong' (2 Corinthians 12:10 NCV). Can we say the same when we're facing tough situations?

So what now? Find an online video of a caterpillar morphing into a butterfly. As you watch its transformation, ask God to give you the strength to endure any struggles you're facing with his strength.
