Be patient, God's at work

Sunday, 27 April 2025

We may tend to feel anxious, frustrated, irritable and/or negative when things don't happen as quickly as we want them to, If we're 'make it happen' people who like to take matters into our own hands, we may rush ahead of God and get into trouble.

Impatience is a sign of two things: (1) Immaturity. Babies cry until we pick them up, and children don't want to wait for anything. But a wise parent knows that often the child isn't ready to handle what they're demanding. (2) Doubt and unbelief. '"Anything is possible for someone who has faith!"..."I do have faith! Please help me to have even more' (Mark 9:23-24 CEV). If we're following the Lord, we can't go faster than the One who's leading.

God knows what he's doing. He works according to his schedule, not ours. At best, we are always working with limited knowledge. So, let's take the next step and trust God to work things out for us.

So what now? In the Bible we read: 'The steps of good men are directed by the Lord. He delights in each step they take' (Psalm 37:23 TLB). So, if you believe your steps are being 'directed by the Lord', if you believe he has a plan for your life, if you believe he cares for you and has your best interests at heart, then focus on this Scripture today: 'Don't be impatient for the Lord to act! Keep travelling steadily along his pathway and in due season he will honour you with every blessing' (Psalm 37:34 TLB).
