Having job security (4)

Wednesday, 9 April 2025

With any loss or drop in income, it's important to keep the right perspective. Having less doesn't make us lesser people. God still values us, and we must keep valuing ourselves. The Christian life is one of trial and triumph. Paul wrote: 'I know what it is to be poor or to have plenty, and I have lived under all kinds of conditions. I know what it means to be full or to be hungry, to have too much or too little. Christ gives me the strength to face anything' (Philippians 4:12-13 CEV).

What should we do if we're unemployed? (1) Reduce our expenses. This may mean taking the bus or train, making our own lunch and using other cost-saving measures. (2) Take the stigma out of being unemployed. Let's not assume people think less of us because we're not working. If we're positive about our next move, so will others be. 'And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to his purpose' (Romans 8:28 NKJV). Getting thrown into prison led to Joseph becoming prime minister of Egypt. 'He turned the intended curse into a blessing for you because the Lord loves you' (Deuteronomy 23:5 TLB).

God is always wanting to reveal the talents within us and connections around us to open the door to our next blessing and success. So, let's trust him and keep believing that our best days are ahead.

So what now? Whatever your stage in life right now, trust God to be with you.
